At first sight a gut punch. One that teaches you a lesson. Atsoupé’s sculptures and drawings evoke the fragility of human beings, women in particular. Fragility of the body but also the psyche. Reaching for common objects –here, a grater—Atsoupé evokes hard realities and strong feelings from the viewer with great economy of means. Once we saw “Femme fardée de bleu et sa robe en soie,” it became impossible to forget it.
