Disruptive

We have been very fortunate to have Disruptive, thanks to Croy Nielsen. Sandra Mujinga’s works that can fit a small private collection like ours are fairly hard to get — her practice is mainly through installations and video works better suited for institutional settings. Mujinga’s work is important to us since her practice connects in many ways to the collection, the themes of invisibility and representation, Afrofuturism and post-humanity, for example.

We are drawn to works that are singular, challenge our perception and invite reflection. Disruptive’s out-worldly and discreet presence (we hung it on a dark wall) refuses any literal interpretation. It is a sculpture but also a could be a garment, an outer layer like the ones worn by the phantomatic characters of Mujinga’s videos. Disruptive has been exhibited in SONW – Shadow of New World at Kunsthaus Bergen in Norway. This was before Sandra Mujinga’s work achieved international recognition by winning the 2021 Preis der Nationalgalerie and participation to the 2022 Venice Biennale.
